Alt-Text
I love writing alt-text because I get to apply knowledge from my diverse background, build disability solidarity and contribute to the expanding world of accessibility design.
Service
I write concise (100 word limit), non-clinical image descriptions that contextualize the worlds in each image. My process involves fact-checking and research to ensure knowledge isn’t lost in translation. By writing alt-text that is useful and pleasurable, I hope to express my fidelity to the reader.
Methodology
The Alt Text as Poetry project by Finnegan Shannon and Bojana Coklyat serves as my primary reference tool.
Values
Expansive and accurate identity markers i.e. gender, race, and age
Avoiding assumptions
The affirming nature of specificity
Dignity of the reader
Depth of information captured
Rates
The Project Fee includes an $ per image fee + consultation fee when applicable.
Institutional Rate: $25+ per image
Community Rate: vary
To see which rate you qualify for please include client name, image count, format (i.e. print or web), and a brief scope of work in initial inquiry.
How is the image fee calculated? My average word count is 50 words per image description. (With some id’s having higher or lower word counts). So at $0.50 per word $25 is a just starting flat rate.
